Free 7-day course
Get your business online properly in 7 days
Seven short lessons, each with one small task you can do yourself. Read them all here, or get one a day by email.
Day 1
Write down what you sell and who it is for
Before changing anything online, spend twenty minutes on paper. List the three things customers buy from you most, who usually buys them, and the questions they ask before buying. Every page, profile and message you write this week comes from this list.
Today's task: Write your top three services or products, your typical customer, and their five most common questions.
Day 2
Complete your Google Business Profile
For many local searches, your Google profile is seen before your website. Check your name, category, address or service area, phone number, hours and website link are all correct, and add a short description using the words from Day 1.
Today's task: Open business.google.com and fill in every section you can. Add special hours for the next bank holiday.
Day 3
Check your website on a phone
Most people will find you on their phone. Pretend you are a new customer: can you see what you do within a few seconds, tap your phone number, and find how to book or buy? Run our free website check to see how fast it loads.
Today's task: Use your own site on your phone for five minutes and note anything slow, small or confusing.
Day 4
Make it easy to contact you or book
Every extra step loses people. Put one clear way to get in touch, or to book, near the top of your website and on your Google profile. If you can, let people book online outside opening hours.
Today's task: Choose your main contact method and make sure it appears on your homepage, contact page and Google profile.
Day 5
Set up a simple follow-up
Enquiries that never hear back are the easiest business to lose. Keep every enquiry in one list, reply quickly, even just to say when you will be in touch properly, and set reminders to chase quotes.
Today's task: Gather every enquiry from the last month into one list and reply to anyone still waiting.
Day 6
Start asking for reviews, within the rules
Happy customers rarely leave reviews unless asked. Send a direct link to your Google review page after each job or visit. In the UK, fake reviews and concealed incentivised reviews are banned, so never offer rewards for reviews, and ask every customer in the same way.
Today's task: Copy your Google review link and send it to your last five happy customers.
Day 7
Decide what to connect next
Look back at the week. Where are you still copying details between tools, missing messages or sending customers to different places? That is where connecting things into one hub saves you the most time. Pick the one change that would help most this month.
Today's task: Write down the one thing you want customers to be able to do online that they cannot do today.
